The Little Red Riding Hood Girls Cape pattern is an easy to make reversible cape suitable for the beginner sewer.

Cozy, comfortable and eye-catching, it is a cute addition to any little girls wardrobe. If you have never sewn a felt applique before you really should try it. Felt can be straight stitched around and is very forgiving of crooked sewing.

SIZE RANGE: This pattern is multi-sized and comes in kids sizes 1 to 8.

FABRIC SUGGESTIONS: This cape could be made from a multitude of fabrics. If you are looking for something warm and cozy for Winter you could use velvet, polar fleece, wool or wool-blend and line it with colorful cotton. For a light summer cape you could use light or medium weight cotton.

MAISIE - Girls Reversible Cape Pattern

Fun project

I bought this pattern after my daughters asked for capes. It was delivered quickly and was easy to follow. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because I didn’t realize that it is quite short. It’s hard to tell when the capes aren’t modeled. I sized up and made my three year old a size 4 and my 5 year old a size 7 and the capes don’t quite come to the elbow (they normally wear a 3T and a 6, respectively). Maybe next time I’ll edit the pattern to make longer capes. These are basically just a shoulder cover. But the actual pattern was good, the video was a great touch, and the capes are still fun for my girls.

I made the 3 year old’s cape out of cotton for the outer fabric and a fleece lined satin for the inner fabric and the 5 year old’s cape out of a stretchy knit and the same satin. The cotton was easier to work with of course, but the knit is very soft and drapes really beautifully over the satin lining.

the cape was very easy to sew and the instructional video made it even easier.
I completed the project in a couple of hours.
