What sizing do your baby clothes sewing patterns come in?
Check the last thumbnail in each listing for individual sizing guides. Most baby sewing patterns are sized by ages in months for your baby. A typical size range is 0 to 24 months. Because babies can vary a lot in how much the grow and have growth spurts seemingly overnight, always check your baby pattern sizing. When a pattern asks for waist and hip measurements, measure over the nappy the baby will be wearing with the clothing item. A bulky nappy may mean you need to size up some pants patterns.
What are the best sewing patterns for baby clothes for beginners?
If you are a beginner sewer, then it is best to start with elastic or no fastenings. Bibs are a great starter project as they don't take much fabric and are quick to make. For baby boys I'd recommend the Avery pants pattern and for girls you can' t go past the Becca bloomers. If you are an absolute beginner, then consider the ANNA dress which is a peasant style baby sewing pattern with nothing tricky. As the neck is elastic it is easy to put on and take off. Baby bibs are super easy, and I have lots of different styles to choose from.
What fabric is best for your patterns?
Most of the sewing patterns for baby clothes on this page are made from either quilting cotton or knits. Check the individual listings for more information. Always prewash your fabric before sewing so there is nothing to irritate sensitive skin.
How much fabric do you need for these patterns?
Most patterns use 1/2 to 1 yard (0.45 to 0.9m) of fabric. Each pattern has a fabric requirements chart in the last thumbnail of the listing. The great thing about sewing baby patterns is that they don't need much fabric. This makes them not only fun to sew but economical too! Look for fabrics with smaller printed motifs that will suit most of these patterns. Larger patterns may get lost and may not look as good.
